There is a very solid pivot point under the governor gear shroud, which supports a lever arm from a sideshaft cam to another valve under the cylinder. The cam follower roller on this arm can slide along it's support and has a moveable taper pin to locate it in position. The matching cam has as a primary and secondary lobe to allow partial decompression when starting.

Half way down the sideshaft there is another cam, which drives a small oil pump to supply oil to the cylinder. The glass oiler is long gone, but the rest fo the mechanism is present.

At the rear of the sideshaft is the bearing support and oblique cut gear for the crankshaft drive. The bearing support has vertically enlongated holes to fasten it to the engine base, and there is a vertical bolt underneath which can be adjusted up and down to get the appropriate depth of gear meshing.

The remaining sideshaft assembly was removed from the engine with part of the governor still attached, as those parts were proving reluctant to come apart.
